Things found in my old email

I have something of a (bad?) habit of emailing things to myself when I'm not at the location where I want said things. I'm sure there is a much better way of managing all of this roaming content, but old habits die very very slowly. And this is a very old habit.

But on the flipside, it can feel a bit like Christmas to go back through the really old stuff in the inbox that I never figured out where to file or had forgotten why I emailed it to myself to begin with. Here are a few choice examples:

I'm pretty sure I sent myself this quote (that's all that was in the message, just this quote) in hopes of using it in something witty. Instead, looks like I'm using it in a blog with no readers.

I also found an expertly written resignation letter from my previous job. Unfortunately, the date stamp on the letter said July 2, 2007; I didn't actually resign that post until July 2008. Sometimes breaking up is hard to do. I'd post it online somewhere (it's really good) but I think that might be unwise.

This is just a test post, using the Windows Live Writer client. I must confess that it's pretty nice to be able to use different clients (or different devices) to post content to the site without going through the web interface...

In other random news, a friend sent me a link to this video last night. Pretty cool stuff.

Under construction (again)

Once again, I have decided to completely change the software and hosting I use for my site. The old solution (Serendipity) worked fine, as did the hosting on GoDaddy, but it was just too...well, custom. And the problem with customized solutions is that they take lots of personal time and effort to maintain and improve, in addition to not always playing well with other web software.

So now, I'm moving it all over into Blogger. Hopefully this will make it much, much easier for me to submit snippets from places besides a web browser, but time will tell. Of course now I get to completely rebuild the web layout but I'm also a bit interested in learning the Blogger API to see what other kinds of neat stuff this system can do.

So, I'll eventually be importing some of the stories and photos from the old site (the stuff that I liked anyway).
